Raymond A. Mendillo, aged 90, of Cumberland, Rhode Island, passed away on September 10, 2026, in Providence. Born on April 3, 1936, in Providence to Ernest and Anna Mendillo, he was a 1955 graduate of LaSalle Academy and served in the Rhode Island Army National Guard. Mendillo was known for his entrepreneurial spirit, notably co-founding the teenage nightclub Mandelin in Woonsocket with his late wife, Patricia. He also owned Mandel’s Limited, a men’s clothing store, and managed the local rock band Northeast Expressway. Later, he dedicated nearly 30 years to working with the Lincoln School Department. A passionate sportsman and three-sport athlete in high school, Mendillo was cherished for his humor and devotion to family. He is survived by his son Tom Mendillo, sister Marie Saccucci, and five grandchildren. His wife Patricia and daughter Marla Barrett predeceased him. Funeral services will be held on September 16 at Holy Apostles Church in Cranston, with visiting hours the day before. Memorial contributions may be made to Hope Health Hospice.
Raymond A. Mendillo, de 90 años, falleció el jueves 10 de septiembre de 2026 en Providence, Rhode Island. Nacido el 3 de abril de 1936 en Providence, fue hijo de Ernest y Anna Mendillo. Graduado en 1955 de LaSalle Academy, sirvió en la Guardia Nacional del Ejército de Rhode Island. Junto a su esposa Patricia “Pat” Mendillo, fue conocido por abrir el club nocturno para adolescentes “Mandelin” en Woonsocket y por ser propietario de Mandel’s Limited, una tienda de ropa masculina en la misma ciudad. Además, fue gerente del grupo de rock local “Northeast Expressway” y trabajó cerca de 30 años en el departamento escolar de Lincoln.
Apodado “Papa Ray”, Mendillo destacó por su personalidad extrovertida, sentido del humor y amor por su familia. Fue un atleta destacado en tres deportes durante su juventud. Vivió sus últimos diez años en Deerfield Beach, Florida. Le sobreviven su hijo Tom Mendillo, cinco nietos, su hermana Marie Saccucci, además de numerosos familiares y amigos. Su esposa Patricia y su hija Marla Barrett fallecieron antes que él. La misa de despedida se realizará el 16 de septiembre en Holy Apostles Church, Cranston, con visitas previas el 15 de septiembre en el funeral Nardolillo. En lugar de flores, se sugieren donaciones a Hope Health Hospice.
