The Providence Performing Arts Center (PPAC) announced the winners of the 2025/2026 Ocean State Star Awards (OSSA), celebrating excellence in high school musical theatre across Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts. The awards recognize students and educators for their performances and technical achievements in 29 musicals from 22 high schools. The top honor, Outstanding Musical, was awarded to six productions, including Bishop Hendricken High School’s The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical and West Warwick High School’s Anastasia and The Theory of Relativity. Additional awards honored lead actors, ensemble casts, technical crew, and directors. The winners will be celebrated at a live Showcase event on May 3, 2026, at PPAC, featuring performances from five of the Outstanding Musicals. The event will conclude with the announcement of four performers chosen to represent Rhode Island at the national Jimmy Awards® in New York City, a prestigious platform that has launched many Broadway careers. Tickets for the Showcase are available online, with discounted rates for students. PPAC commended all participating schools and creative teams for their dedication to high school musical theatre this season.
El Providence Performing Arts Center (PPAC) anunció a los ganadores de los Ocean State Star Awards (OSSA) 2025/2026, que reconocen el talento y dedicación de estudiantes y educadores de teatro musical en escuelas secundarias de Rhode Island y el sureste de Massachusetts. En esta edición participaron 22 escuelas y 29 musicales, evaluados en 18 categorías por un jurado compuesto por educadores y profesionales del teatro. Seis producciones obtuvieron el premio a Mejor Musical: Bishop Hendricken High School con The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical; Joseph Case High School con Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat; South Kingstown High School con The Prom; St. Mary Academy – Bay View con Shrek the Musical; y West Warwick High School con Anastasia y The Theory of Relativity. Además, se entregaron premios a actores y actrices principales, así como reconocimientos en actuaciones de conjunto, danza y técnica, incluyendo dirección, diseño y música.
