To help residents cope with the dangerous conditions, the city is opening cooling centers starting July 1, offering free bottled water and allowing only certified service animals inside. Additionally, select city pools and waterparks will operate with extended hours through July 4 to provide relief from the heat.
The PVD FanZone schedule will be adjusted to avoid daytime heat, opening later in the evening with added shade, misting fans, and cooling towels to protect attendees. City officials emphasize the importance of heat safety, advising residents to stay indoors when possible, stay hydrated, wear appropriate clothing, and check on vulnerable neighbors. They also warn against leaving children or pets in cars and remind the public that opening fire hydrants is illegal. El Servicio Meteorológico Nacional emitió una advertencia de calor extremo con índices térmicos que podrían superar los 110 grados Fahrenheit (43 grados Celsius). Para mitigar riesgos, la ciudad abrirá centros de enfriamiento gratuitos, donde solo se permitirán animales de servicio certificados y se ofrecerá agua embotellada sin costo. Además, se extenderán los horarios de piscinas y parques acuáticos, disponibles desde el mediodía hasta las 7 p.m. el 1 y 2 de julio, y con horarios reducidos en los días festivos del 3 y 4 de julio. El FanZone ajustará su programación para evitar las horas de mayor calor y añadirá medidas para brindar sombra y refresco a los asistentes.
