The City of Providence has launched “A Safe Providence for All,” a commitment to ensuring safety and inclusivity for all residents, regardless of immigration status. The initiative emphasizes that city services are accessible to everyone, and the Providence Police Department will not inquire about individuals’ immigration status, focusing solely on public safety. Key city policies supporting this commitment include an executive order prohibiting the use of city property for civil immigration enforcement and the Providence Community-Police Relations Act. Residents can access various resources such as a free 24/7 legal immigration helpline, municipal ID cards available to all residents aged 14 and older, free notary services, and a comprehensive social services directory covering housing, food access, and emergency assistance. Additionally, the city offers an optional template for private property owners to designate nonpublic areas and restrict immigration enforcement activities on their premises. This voluntary measure aims to protect residents while clarifying property boundaries. Overall, the initiative seeks to foster a welcoming environment that prioritizes safety and well-being for Providence’s diverse community.
