Honrando A Los Homenajeados Waterfire Impact En Nuestra 9ª Gala Anual Fireball
WaterFire Providence honored three distinguished Rhode Islanders at its 9th Annual FireBall Gala with WaterFire Impact Awards for their significant contributions to the community. Valerie Tutson received the Creative Impact Award for her work as a nationally recognized storyteller and cultural artist. Since 1991, she has used storytelling rooted in African traditions and diasporic heritage to connect cultures and generations. Valerie is a founding member of Rhode Island Black Storytellers and has led workshops and performances nationwide and internationally.
J.L. “Lynn” Singleton earned the Civic Impact Award for his transformative leadership of the Providence Performing Arts Center (PPAC) since 1983. Under his guidance, PPAC rose from near bankruptcy to become a premier nonprofit theater, hosting numerous national Broadway tours and winning prestigious awards. He also founded Professional Facilities Management, Inc., and was inducted into the Rhode Island Heritage Hall of Fame in 2023.
Cortney Nicolato received the Joseph A. Chazan, M.D. Community Impact Award for her role as President and CEO of United Way of Rhode Island. She led a successful five-year strategic plan to invest $100 million in local communities, focusing on racial equity, education, housing, and economic mobility, achieving the goal a year early through partnerships and data-driven initiatives.
WaterFire Providence celebró su 9º Gala Anual FireBall, en la que otorgó los premios WaterFire Impact a destacados líderes de Rhode Island por su contribución al desarrollo comunitario. Valerie Tutson recibió el Premio al Impacto Creativo por su labor como narradora y artista cultural, reconocida nacionalmente por conectar culturas y generaciones a través del arte oral, con un enfoque en tradiciones africanas y la diáspora. Tutson es directora ejecutiva y fundadora de Rhode Island Black Storytellers y ha impulsado la educación cultural mediante talleres y presentaciones en diversos espacios. J.L. Lynn Singleton fue galardonado con el Premio al Impacto Cívico por su liderazgo en el Providence Performing Arts Center desde 1983, transformando este teatro en uno de los principales espacios sin fines de lucro en Norteamérica, restaurando su edificio histórico y promoviendo el arte escénico con reconocimientos como premios Tony y Olivier. Por último, Cortney Nicolato recibió el Premio al Impacto Comunitario Joseph A. Chazan, M.D., por su gestión como presidenta y CEO de United Way of Rhode Island, donde implementó un plan estratégico para invertir 100 millones de dólares en la comunidad, enfocado en equidad racial, educación, vivienda y movilidad económica, alcanzando sus metas antes de lo previsto. Estos reconocimientos destacan la diversidad y el compromiso de líderes que fortalecen la cultura y el bienestar social en Rhode Island.
