Raymond A. Mendillo, aged 90, of Cumberland, Rhode Island, passed away on September 10, 2026, in Providence. Born on April 3, 1936, in Providence, he was the son of Ernest and Anna Mendillo. A 1955 graduate of LaSalle Academy, Raymond served in the Rhode Island Army National Guard and was a three-sport athlete in baseball, basketball, and football. He and his late wife, Patricia “Pat” Mendillo, were known for opening the teenage nightclub Mandelin in Woonsocket. Raymond also owned Mandel’s Limited, a men’s clothing store, and managed the local rock band Northeast Expressway. He spent nearly 30 years working for the Lincoln School Department before retiring.
Known affectionately as “Papa Ray,” he was cherished for his humor, big personality, and dedication to family. Raymond is survived by his son Tom Mendillo and wife Emilie, sister Marie Saccucci, and five grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Patricia, daughter Marla Barrett, and brother Ernest Mendillo. His funeral Mass will be held on September 16 at Holy Apostles Church in Cranston, with visiting hours the day before. Memorial donations may be made to Hope Health Hospice.

Nacido el 3 de abril de 1936 en Providence, fue hijo de Ernest y Anna Mendillo. Graduado de LaSalle Academy en 1955, sirvió en la Guardia Nacional del Ejército de Rhode Island. Junto a su esposa Patricia “Pat” Mendillo, fue conocido por abrir el club nocturno para adolescentes Mandelin en Woonsocket. Reconocido por su personalidad extrovertida y su gran sentido del humor, Mendillo era un apasionado de los deportes y destacó como atleta en béisbol, baloncesto y fútbol durante su etapa escolar. Vivió sus últimos diez años en Deerfield Beach, Florida. Le sobreviven su hijo Tom Mendillo, cinco nietos, y su hermana Marie Saccucci. Su esposa Patricia y su hija Marla Barrett fallecieron antes que él. La misa de despedida se realizará el 16 de septiembre en la iglesia Holy Apostles de Cranston, mientras que la visita será el día anterior en el Nardolillo Funeral Home. En lugar de flores, se sugieren donaciones a Hope Health Hospice.
