William “Bill” Albert Shuey III, aged 79, of West Yarmouth, Massachusetts, passed away on June 22, 2026, after an illness. Born on December 28, 1946, in Berkeley, California, Bill was the eldest of four siblings. He was deeply devoted to his wife of 37 years, Frances Musco Shipps, and cherished his children and grandchildren. A passionate lover of language and literature, Bill was a polyglot fluent in several languages, including English, Spanish, German, and Turkish. His early years included service in the Peace Corps in Turkey and volunteering with Vista. Professionally, Bill dedicated 32 years to advocating for immigrants as Executive Director of Project Persona and the International Institute of Rhode Island. He notably founded the International Charter School in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, which he regarded as his proudest achievement. Bill enjoyed ocean swims, tennis, travel, and sharing meals with friends and family. A celebration of his life will be held on August 24, 2026, in Rumford, Rhode Island. Donations in his memory may be made to the International Charter School or the Providence Athenaeum.
