Agencia De Desarrollo Aprueba Fondos Para Tres Proyectos De Vivienda Asequible En Providence Y Mount Hope

The Providence Redevelopment Agency (PRA) approved funding for three affordable housing projects across South Providence, West End, and Mount Hope during its July 15 meeting. The PRA, which manages the Providence Housing Trust Fund, allocated roughly $3.4 million remaining in the fund—comprising $2.4 million in bond money and just over $1 million in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds. The Willard, a 160-unit development at 251 Blackstone Street by Marathon Construction, received all the ARPA money and $900,000 in bond funds. Of the units, 102 will be affordable, with construction expected to start before year-end to meet ARPA spending deadlines. The remaining bond money was split between a 12-unit Mount Hope project by Omni Development and the Mount Hope Community Center, which received $500,000, and a 44-unit mixed-use development on Elmwood Avenue in the West End by the Women’s Development Corporation, which received $1 million. The PRA also discussed purchasing vacant lots for future projects and plans to replenish the Housing Trust Fund with a proposed $25 million housing bond on the November ballot. Four other funding requests were denied.
