The Museum of Natural History and Planetarium in Roger Williams Park is celebrating its 130th anniversary on Saturday, June 6th. Known as the “People’s University,” the museum invites visitors to join in commemorating over a century of learning and community connection. Activities run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., featuring a Memory Wall where guests can share stories and photos, hands-on exhibits, and a special Museum Quest exploring the museum’s history. Admission costs $2, with free entry for members, children under four, and Providence residents on the first Saturday of the month.
Special events include archive tours at 11 a.m., 12 p.m., and 1 p.m., offering a behind-the-scenes look at the museum’s historic collections for $5, suitable for ages 12 and up. At 2 p.m., the planetarium will host “Our Place in Space,” a show exploring Earth and the solar system, open to audiences aged four and older. Tickets for tours and the planetarium show require advance reservation and are subject to availability. The celebration highlights the museum’s role as a place for exploration and discovery across generations.
El Museo de Historia Natural y Planetario en Roger Williams Park celebra su 130 aniversario el sábado 6 de junio, invitando al público a conmemorar este hito como la “Universidad del Pueblo”. La jornada, que se realizará de 10 a 16 horas, incluye actividades interactivas, una “Memory Wall” para compartir recuerdos y una búsqueda especial que destaca la historia y colecciones del museo. La entrada general cuesta 2 dólares, con acceso gratuito para miembros, niños menores de cuatro años y residentes de Providence con comprobante de domicilio, quienes además disfrutan del primer sábado gratis.
Durante el día habrá visitas guiadas a los archivos históricos a las 11, 12 y 13 horas, con un costo adicional de 5 dólares y reserva previa, dirigidas a mayores de 12 años. A las 14 horas se proyectará en el planetario el espectáculo “Our Place in Space”, un recorrido por el sistema solar y la Vía Láctea, accesible para público mayor de cuatro años, con entradas también a 5 dólares o gratuitas para miembros y residentes de Providence.
