El Alcalde Electo Morales Anuncia Equipo De Transición Y Promete Reuniones Comunitarias Antes De Asumir
Mayor-elect David Morales, following his recent election as Providence’s mayor for 2027, announced an 11-member transition team comprising City Councilors, political figures, nonprofit leaders, and community advocates. Morales emphasized the start of building a more affordable, safe city and promised ongoing community engagement through meetings planned between November and December to gather public input on policies and budgets. While Morales intends to remove the current Department of Public Works Director Patricia Coyne-Fague, he invited Police Chief Oscar Perez to remain, though Perez has not yet confirmed. The transition team includes seasoned political veterans like City Council President Rachel Miller and former candidates Gonzalo Cuervo and Aaron Regunberg, alongside representatives from unions, small businesses, and community safety organizations. Morales also highlighted efforts to improve education by appointing school board members and establishing a youth council with decision-making authority. Current City Council Chief of Staff June Rose is leading the transition as executive director, with Jenn Steinfeld as operations director. Morales pledged transparency in forthcoming personnel decisions and a smooth transfer of power with the outgoing administration.
