Mayor Brett P. Smiley and the City of Providence Department of Art, Culture and Tourism have announced the return of the annual Independence Day Celebration and Fireworks Display on Sunday, July 5, 2026, at India Point Park starting at 7 PM. This year’s event is especially significant as it marks the 250th anniversary of American independence. The celebration will follow the Cape Verdean Independence Day Festival held earlier in the day at the same location, offering a full day of cultural festivities along Providence’s waterfront. Attendees can enjoy free live music, local food vendors, family-friendly activities, and a fireworks display over Providence Harbor beginning at 8:30 PM. Mayor Smiley emphasized the event’s role in bringing together diverse communities to honor shared history and look forward to the future. The city encourages the use of public transportation and warns of limited parking. Safety measures include bag checks, prohibitions on personal fireworks and open flames, and the availability of earplugs. Additional event details and logistics will be announced soon. The celebration is free and open to the public, supported by the City of Providence and the Providence Tourism Council.

Smiley, junto con el Departamento de Arte, Cultura y Turismo, anunciaron la celebración anual del Día de la Independencia el domingo 5 de julio de 2026 en India Point Park, a partir de las 7 p.m. Este evento adquiere especial relevancia al conmemorar el 250 aniversario de la independencia de Estados Unidos. La festividad comenzará tras el Festival del Día de la Independencia de Cabo Verde, que se realizará en el mismo lugar durante el día, ofreciendo así una jornada completa de actividades culturales y comunitarias en la costa histórica de Providence.
La celebración incluirá música en vivo, vendedores de comida local, actividades para todas las edades y culminará con un espectáculo de fuegos artificiales sobre el puerto a las 8:30 p.m. La entrada es gratuita y se recomienda a los asistentes utilizar transporte público, servicios de rideshare, caminar o andar en bicicleta debido a la alta afluencia y el limitado estacionamiento.
