David Lawlor, a Rhode Island-based photographer and filmmaker, seized the opportunity to document the historic Blizzard of 2026 in downtown Providence. Living at the corner of Washington and Mathewson Streets, Lawlor was inspired by past storm photography he encountered while working at Rhode Island PBS and decided to capture the blizzard’s impact firsthand. Despite his mother’s warnings, he ventured outside just before sunset on February 23, witnessing a transformed city blanketed in snow, with empty streets and frosted stoplights. The conditions allowed for unique scenes, including walkers and skiers navigating the quiet roads. Lawlor also flew his drone for the first time in a year, capturing striking aerial footage of the snow-covered urban landscape. He reflected on the importance of preserving such moments, knowing that decades from now, his images and videos will serve as a record of the Blizzard of 2026. His work continues his passion for documenting New England’s evolving cityscapes and overlooked histories through cinematic storytelling.

Tras recibir la alerta sobre la tormenta, Lawlor recordó las imágenes de grandes nevadas pasadas, como la Blizzard de 1978, y decidió capturar la transformación de la ciudad desde su residencia en el centro, en la esquina de Washington y Mathewson. Aunque su madre le recomendó no salir durante el temporal, esperó unas horas y luego recorrió las calles desiertas, cubiertas completamente de nieve, donde peatones y esquiadores transitaban sin vehículos. Por primera vez en un año, también voló su dron para obtener imágenes aéreas impactantes.
