WaterFire Providence honored three distinguished Rhode Islanders at its 9th Annual FireBall Gala with Impact Awards recognizing their significant contributions to the community. Valerie Tutson received the Creative Impact Award for her work as a nationally acclaimed storyteller and cultural artist. Since 1991, Tutson has used storytelling to connect cultures and generations, drawing on African traditions and diasporic heritage. She is a founding member of Rhode Island Black Storytellers and has hosted an award-winning cultural TV show. J.L. “Lynn” Singleton was awarded the Civic Impact Award for his transformative leadership as President of the Providence Performing Arts Center (PPAC) since 1983. Singleton revitalized PPAC from near bankruptcy into a premier nonprofit theater, enhancing local tourism and arts accessibility while overseeing historic restorations. He has earned multiple honors, including induction into the Rhode Island Heritage Hall of Fame. Cortney Nicolato received the Joseph A. Chazan, M.D. Community Impact Award for her role as President and CEO of United Way of Rhode Island. Under her leadership, the organization launched a strategic plan investing $100 million in advancing racial equity, education, housing, and economic mobility, achieving this goal ahead of schedule through partnerships and community-focused initiatives.
WaterFire Providence celebró su 9º Gala Anual FireBall reconociendo a destacados líderes de Rhode Island con los premios WaterFire Impact por su contribución al desarrollo comunitario. Valerie Tutson recibió el Premio al Impacto Creativo por su labor como narradora y artista cultural, promoviendo la conexión entre culturas y generaciones a través de la tradición oral, especialmente vinculada a la herencia africana. Tutson es directora ejecutiva de Rhode Island Black Storytellers y ha llevado su arte a diversos escenarios nacionales e internacionales. J.L. Lynn Singleton fue galardonado con el Premio al Impacto Cívico por su liderazgo en el Providence Performing Arts Center desde 1983, transformando el teatro en una institución emblemática que impulsa la economía local y la cultura, además de recibir múltiples reconocimientos y haber sido incluido en el Salón de la Fama de Rhode Island en 2023.
