Join the Museum of Natural History and Planetarium in Roger Williams Park for Moon Discovery Weekend! Celebrate our closest celestial neighbor with educational and engaging activities for visitors of all ages. Explore the Moon and enjoy a weekend of fun as we celebrate International Observe the Moon. This global event invites citizens around the world to observe and learn more about our Moon.
Weekend Museum Moon Celebration Fun:
10am-4pm: Learn about the formation of craters, challenge yourself with Moon trivia, find out what it takes to go to the Moon, and complete a Moon museum quest.
Cost: Free with Museum admission. Museum admission is $2 | Free for Museum Members and children under age 4.
12pm-2pm: Discover the Moon with LunaSCOPE
LunaSCOPE is an international team of scientists led by Brown University researchers and supported by NASA that is working to advance scientific discovery and help chart a path for future human exploration of the Moon.
Cost: Free with Museum admission. Museum admission is $2 | Free for Museum Members and children under age 4.
2:00pm: FORWARD! TO THE MOON Fulldome Planetarium Show
Step into NASA’s Artemis program, a bold new era of lunar exploration. Learn about the awe-inspiring Artemis program currently underway and NASA’s ambitious goal to create a permanent scientific presence on the Moon, building upon the achievements of the Apollo missions of the 1960s and ’70s.
Planetarium Show Audience: General (children must be age 4+)
Cost: Planetarium show ticket (includes museum admission) is $5/ Museum Members Free.

CANCELLED DUE TO HEAVY CLOUD COVER! Saturday, September 19, 7:30pm-9pm: Moon Telescope Viewing
Celebrate International Observe the Moon Night at the Museum of Natural History and Planetarium! Join us for an evening of lunar exploration and get an up-close look at the Moon through telescopes with Brown Astronomy Club and LunaSCOPE. Learn more about our nearest celestial neighbor and enjoy the night sky. Weather permitting.
Cost: Free. Pets are not permitted.
Wednesday, September 23, 7pm-8pm: Moon Hike in Roger Williams Park
Join the Museum of Natural History and Planetarium for an evening walk through Roger Williams Park and explore the Moon and night sky! Please wear comfortable, sturdy shoes and dress appropriately for the weather. This is a mild hike that includes some hills and uneven terrain. Walk meets at the Museum of Natural History.
Cost: Free. Pets and strollers are not permitted.
