Jane’s Walk Providence returns May 1–3, 2026 with a weekend of free, community-led walking conversations across the city. Inspired by urban activist Jane Jacobs, Jane’s Walk invites residents and visitors to explore Providence on foot while thinking together about the streets, buildings, histories, public spaces, waterways, art, infrastructure, and neighborhood stories that shape daily life.
This year’s festival includes 20 walks led by local residents, historians, artists, organizers, planners, educators, and community advocates. Walks will take place throughout Elmwood, Fox Point, the Jewelry District, Downtown, the Valley, South Providence, Dexter Park, the West River, the Woonasquatucket River, and other parts of the city. Topics range from public art, architecture, street trees, Cape Verdean history, environmental justice, and historic monuments to parking lots, clairvoyants, urban waterways, family-friendly walkability, and the future of Memorial Boulevard.
All Jane’s Walks are free and open to the public. No registration is required. Participants should wear comfortable shoes, meet their walk leader at the listed starting point, and be ready for a lively, informal discussion. Most walks last about one to two hours and take place rain or shine.
Everyone is encouraged to walk, bike, bus, scooter, or carpool to the walk start points whenever possible. The schedule is subject to change, so participants should check the website on the day of their walk for the latest details, including any updated meeting locations.
