TIERRA FUTURA: Exposición de Futuros en la Tierra Boricua

A solo exhibition of artist Shey Rivera Ríos and group exhibition of 21 Boricua artists from the archipelago and its diasporas.
TIERRA FUTURA brings together Boricua (Puerto Rican) artists from the archipelago of Borikén and its diasporas across the U.S. whose practices imagine, remember, and materialize Boricua futurity rooted in ancestral knowledge and cultural sovereignty. These works contain stories of land-based memory, Boricua rural identity, eco-feminisms, queer Boricua joy, cultural rituals, and tributes to significant artistic, political, and familial ancestors. Many of the artists are also founders and leaders of alternative art spaces, land sovereignty projects, and other cultural initiatives that restore and nourish land, culture, and ancestral practices. TIERRA FUTURA is cultural ritual that becomes art practice. It invites us to contemplate what it means to build abundant diasporic futures.
Curated by Shey Rivera Ríos (Studio Loba) with Co-Curatorial and Logistics Team: Anabel Vázquez Rodríguez, Ruchika Nambiar and Laura Duclos (WaterFire). TIERRA FUTURA reúne a artistas boricuas (puertorriqueños) del archipiélago de Borikén y sus diásporas en los EE. UU. cuyas prácticas imaginan, recuerdan y materializan la futuridad boricua arraigada en el conocimiento ancestral y la soberanía cultural. Estas obras contienen historias de memoria basada en la tierra, identidad rural boricua, ecofeminismos, alegría queer boricua, rituales culturales y homenajes a ancestros artísticos, políticos y familiares significativos. Muchos de los artistas también son fundadores y líderes de espacios de arte alternativos, proyectos de soberanía territorial y otras iniciativas culturales que restauran y nutren la tierra, la cultura y las prácticas ancestrales. TIERRA FUTURA es un ritual cultural que se convierte en práctica artística. Nos invita a contemplar qué significa construir futuros diásporicos abundantes.
