PPL’s 2025 Creative Fellow Joe DeGeorge to Perform Original Programmatic Music

Joe DeGeorge, the 2025 Creative Fellow at Providence Public Library (PPL), will perform original programmatic music inspired by the journal of the whaling bark Brewster. The journal was kept by third mate Marshall Keith during the ship’s 1863-65 voyage. DeGeorge’s performance, titled “Fantastic Sounds of Her Voyage and Dreams on Board,” will take place on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at 5:00 PM in the Providence Public Library Auditorium. This event offers a unique blend of historical narrative and contemporary music, bringing to life the experiences and atmosphere of the 19th-century whaling journey through sound. The program highlights DeGeorge’s creative approach to interpreting historical documents and engaging the public with cultural heritage through music.
Joe DeGeorge, becario creativo de la Biblioteca Pública de Providence (PPL) en 2025, ofrecerá una presentación musical original el miércoles 18 de junio a las 5:00 p.m. en el auditorio de la biblioteca. Su espectáculo, titulado “The Journal of the Brewster: Fantastic Sounds of Her Voyage and Dreams on Board”, está inspirado en el diario de viaje del tercer oficial Marshall Keith, quien documentó la travesía del bergantín ballenero Brewster entre 1863 y 1865. La música programática que interpretará DeGeorge busca evocar las experiencias y sueños vividos durante este histórico viaje marítimo. Esta iniciativa forma parte del programa creativo anual de la PPL, que apoya a artistas locales en la creación y difusión de obras originales vinculadas a la historia y cultura regional.
