Mildred Elaine James, known as Elaine, passed away peacefully at age 90 on July 27, 2026, at Roberts Health Centre in North Kingstown, Rhode Island. Born in Providence on October 16, 1935, she graduated from the Newport Hospital School of Nursing and dedicated her career as a Registered Nurse, serving as a visiting nurse and later as Intake Coordinator for the Kent County Visiting Nurse Association. Elaine was admired for her professional skill and compassionate care. She was predeceased by her husband, Norman A. James, who died in June 2024; their enduring love was well-known among family and friends. Elaine is survived by her three children, seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Known for her strong-willed and independent nature, she also had a warm heart and enjoyed family outings to Newport’s Second Beach, earning her car the nickname “Beachmobile.” Elaine was an avid reader. The family expressed gratitude to caregivers at The Seasons of East Greenwich, Roberts Health Centre, and Hope Hospice for their support. A Requiem Eucharist will be held on September 26, 2026, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in East Greenwich, with burial at Swan Point Cemetery in Providence.
