Providence’s new Downtown Beer Pavilion at 195 District Park Pavilion opened on July 17 after years of planning, delays, and a $7 million investment tied to the larger $600 million project relocating a highway to free up downtown land. Operated by The Guild, a brewery with locations in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, the pavilion offers a full-service restaurant with indoor seating for 65 and outdoor space for over 100 guests. The facility includes a two-barrel brewing system and serves food items like grilled cheese, pretzels, sausage, salads, and falafel, alongside coffee and pastries from Seven Stars Bakery. The Guild began soft openings on weekends and aims for full operations by the end of August. The project faced criticism from some local restaurant owners who viewed it as government-subsidized competition and questioned the allocation of funds toward the pavilion rather than green space improvements. Supporters, including the Downtown Neighborhood Association, believe the pavilion will increase foot traffic, enhance safety, and create a vibrant community space. The venue will employ 16 to 18 people and operate year-round, offering a new social hub by the river in downtown Providence.
