Agencia De Desarrollo Aprueba Fondos Para Tres Proyectos De Vivienda Asequible En Providence Y Mount Hope

The Providence Redevelopment Agency (PRA) approved funding for three affordable housing projects in South Providence, Mount Hope, and the West End during a July 15 meeting. The PRA manages the Providence Housing Trust Fund, which supports income-restricted affordable housing. With roughly $3.4 million left in the fund—$2.4 million from bonds and just over $1 million from expiring American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds—the agency prioritized projects ready to begin construction soon. The Willard, a $67.9 million development at 251 Blackstone Street by Marathon Construction, received all the remaining ARPA money and $900,000 in bond funds. It will include 160 units, 102 affordable. The remaining bond money was split between a 12-unit Mount Hope project by Omni Development and the Mount Hope Community Center, which received $500,000, and a 44-unit mixed-use development on Elmwood Avenue by the Women’s Development Corporation, which got $1 million. The PRA also discussed acquiring vacant lots for future redevelopment. The city plans to propose a $25 million housing bond in November to replenish the fund. Four other funding requests were denied.
