Providence Mayor Brett P. Smiley has announced the return of the city’s annual Independence Day Celebration and Fireworks Display on Sunday, July 5, 2026, at India Point Park starting at 7 PM. This year’s event is especially significant as it marks the 250th anniversary of American independence. The celebration will follow the Cape Verdean Independence Day Festival held earlier that day at the same location, offering a full day of cultural festivities. Attendees can enjoy live music, food vendors, family-friendly activities, and a fireworks show over Providence Harbor beginning at 8:30 PM. The event will feature performances including the National Anthems of the United States and Cape Verde, with entertainment by DJ Lefty. Cox Communications is the presenting sponsor, supporting the free event open to all residents and visitors. Due to expected crowds and limited parking, attendees are encouraged to use public transportation or alternative travel methods. Road closures and parking restrictions will be in effect around India Point Park throughout the day to accommodate the festivities.
El alcalde de Providence, Brett P. Smiley, anunció la celebración anual del Día de la Independencia el domingo 5 de julio de 2026 en India Point Park, a partir de las 7 p. m. Este evento adquiere especial relevancia al conmemorar el 250 aniversario de la independencia estadounidense. La jornada comenzará con el Festival del Día de la Independencia de Cabo Verde, una tradición que destaca la cultura de esta comunidad local, seguido por actividades familiares, música en vivo, puestos de comida y un espectáculo pirotécnico sobre el puerto de Providence a las 8:30 p. m.
La celebración incluirá interpretaciones de los himnos nacionales de Estados Unidos y Cabo Verde, con la participación de DJ Lefty. Cox Communications será el patrocinador principal del evento gratuito, que busca reunir a residentes y visitantes en un ambiente festivo y multicultural.
Debido a la alta afluencia esperada, se recomienda utilizar transporte público o medios alternativos, ya que habrá cierres de calles y restricciones de estacionamiento en India Street, George M.
