Providence Mayor Brett P. Smiley announced the city’s annual Independence Day Celebration and Fireworks Display will return on Sunday, July 5, 2026, at India Point Park starting at 7 PM. This year’s event is especially significant as it marks the 250th anniversary of American independence. The celebration will follow the Cape Verdean Independence Day Festival held earlier that day at the same location, offering a full day of cultural festivities along Providence’s waterfront. Attendees can enjoy live music, food vendors, family-friendly activities, and a fireworks show over Providence Harbor beginning at 8:30 PM. The event will feature performances by Rhode Island Cape Verdean Heritage singers and entertainment by DJ Lefty. Cox Communications is the presenting sponsor, supporting the free celebration open to the public. Due to expected crowds and limited parking, residents are encouraged to use public transportation or other alternative travel methods. Road closures and parking restrictions will be in effect around India Point Park throughout the day to accommodate the festivities. The event aims to honor the nation’s history while celebrating Providence’s diverse communities.
