PRONK! In The Park
PRONK! en el Parque
PRONK! in the Park is a weekly, lunchtime community engagement series designed to activate 195 District Park as a site of collective expression, civic gathering, and cultural joy in the lead-up to the 2026 PRONK! Festival. Building on PRONK!’s long history of reclaiming public space through music, movement, and protest, this series creates recurring opportunities for people to gather, make noise, and connect during the workday.
Each Friday program invites participants not just to observe, but to actively take part in collective music-making and movement traditions rooted in resistance, celebration, and community power. From drumming and Indigenous song to brass band dance parties and West African dance, these sessions center participatory practices that lower barriers to entry and welcome people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities.
The vision is simple and intentional: to establish a reliable rhythm of public gatherings that builds familiarity with the park and excitement for the pavilion’s grand opening. By maintaining a visible presence throughout the spring, PRONK! in the Park provides a consistent space for the 195 District Park to share project updates and engage in direct dialogue with the community. This sustained engagement allows anticipation for the pavilion and the PRONK! season to build organic momentum over multiple weeks through visibility and shared experience. This series also responds directly to how people use the park. Lunchtime is already a moment of natural foot traffic, yet often underutilized for cultural engagement. By offering short, high-energy, and welcoming activations mid-day, PRONK! in the Park invites downtown workers, students, residents, and passersby to pause, participate, and reimagine the park as a place for expression rather than transit.
At its core, PRONK! in the Park is about reclaiming public space as a commons. These gatherings affirm that music, protest, and joy belong in shared civic spaces, and that collective sound and movement are powerful tools for building connection, visibility, and democratic participation.
